Q & A
“What types of classes do you offer?”
We offer core classes typically required of high school students as well as electives. Usually it’s an even mix.
“Do you offer a la carte classes?”
One. Our one a la carte class option is Spanish (either 1 or 2). Our ideal model at Virtue Road is for students to attend all day, supporting true community growth and building friendships rather than an “on-the go” or “drive-thru” approach.
“Do students choose their classes?”
Yes. We usually offer two classes at a time during each period (sometimes 3 if we have enough mentors). The limitations sometimes are full classes or the material being too difficult for younger students.
“Do you offer discounts?”
Yes; For the right fit, you can come help mentor a class which greatly helps paying for your child’s tuition.
“What grades do you serve?”
We primarily serve teens and their younger siblings. VRA classes are for grades 7-12. Younger siblings may attend Virtue Road, Jr. at the same time. VRA, Jr. students are expected to know how to read and write so they generally are at least working at or near a third grade level. Next year, we are restructuring so that we have VRA Middle which serves the “in between” grades.
“Do you give homework?”
Yes. While we believe community is our topmost priority, we also believe in sharing challenges with each other and accountability. Sometimes it’s easier and more enjoyable to navigate difficult class material when you know you’re “not the only one.” We do believe that parents carry the torch of being the primary teacher, but we will provide a plan for covering the class material in a timely way and encourage projects as well as studying.
“Will VRA cover ALL my child’s classes?”
Almost! Currently, we do not offer math. However, the rest of the schedule is usually adequate. In our experience, parents who add on additional a la carte classes elsewhere while attending VRA overwhelm their students. Virtue Road stands on its own and is usually enough to keep the students actively learning. Many parents at the high school level have chosen online math.
“Do you offer high school class counseling?”
Yes! One of our directors has graduated children already, and the other director is a certified teacher. As we learn of opportunities and tips we pass that on to our VRA parents. We meet periodically to discuss transcripts, ACT prep, career exploration and more.
“What time do you meet?”
We meet from 9:15am-3:15pm on Tuesdays. Students stay all day and are in classes with different students and different mentors, having lunch time as a 45 minute break to socialize as well. We have seen this model work for building relationships as opposed to a la carte only.
“What if my teen has already had all the classes on the schedule but still wants to come?”
Your teen is welcome to take a class with us. No two classes are the same. An online history class does not carry the same projects, class discussions, and public speaking opportunities as an in-person class. Even the same class at another tutorial is always different because of the make-up of the class and different material. If teens want to come to Virtue Road and are a good fit, we’d love to have them! IT IS NEVER A WASTE OF TIME TO KEEP LEARNING WITH FRIENDS.
SIDE NOTE: Our parents can and do offer feedback to the classes they’d like to see us offer. We are happy to have ongoing discussions with our most involved parents.
“Do you have a technology policy?”
Yes. Our students may have a cell phone with them, but it must be kept in the backpack ALL DAY. It cannot be on their body and must be on silent. Students are ALWAYS allowed to call home and simply must ask permission to do so. Sometimes classes may require a laptop, and in those cases we take extra care to supervise. We promote face-to-face interaction with youth and have seen it pay off quite well.
“Do you have room for FALL 2025?”
We have room in CERTAIN classes—usually those more fitting for 11th and 12th graders, but an advanced 10th grader could handle them. Email us for more info!
“Do parents stay?”
Most of our mentors (class leaders) are parents. We welcome parents to find ways in which they can volunteer, but they are not required to stay. That being said, we are always open to the possibility of becoming a co-op where the parents do stay. Parents may come and enjoy lunch together with us. Most parents opt to drop off and pick up.

World History through a Christian Perspective

Our PE and Wellness classes are separated by gender with special focuses for each group of students.
Spanish 1
We still have room in 4th period class, which is Spanish 1. This is an additional cost to our Spanish teachers. We have a team of teachers in Spanish: one native speaker and one who majored in Spanish.
